Go, Courageously!
by LaTan Roland Murphy
While writing Courageous Women of The Bible, I realized more than ever before my own need
for daily courage. Courage doesn’t drop into your lap one day announcing: I’m here, all is well!
Instead, courage comes as we choose to live courageously—standing strong, pressing into our
faith when friends fail us, our husband is unfaithful, we feel fat and ugly and just want to run to
the pantry for comfort. But even the best chocolate chip cookies won’t make us courageous.
Courage comes from pure grit as we remind ourselves through gritted teeth: I will be stronger,
wiser, better because of this journey God has me on. He will help me!

Friend, I encourage you to lean hard into your faith in Christ, today, as you remember the
goodness of God in times past. Recount the many ways you thought you couldn’t make it
through a given situation. Remember how you struggled to face a daunting circumstance or the
person creating the daunting circumstance. Courage will come like the best gift delivered in the
night. Courage will see you through every difficult present moment you are facing. Hold fast to
your faith and find rest your weary head upon God’s strong, able shoulders. You are not alone
because the courageous hand of God can be trusted. He is at work in your life—powerfully
equipping you in each day going forward—for all of your days.

Studying God’s word is the key to living a courageous life. Each time I intentionally settle
into it, I discover something brand new. When I fail to study, I soon find myself emotionally
exhausted, unfocused in faith, and lacking courage.
Friend, do you recognize your personal need for courage? Do you want to fight life’s battles
fiercely, boldly, without shrinking back? Please, read God’s word ! Then, you will know that all
of heaven is fighting for you and the Bible will come alive inside of you, becoming your courage
guide for living.
So many times, I have lacked courage and cowardly faced life. But, as I pressed into the
wisdom and power of God’s Holy truths, I became wiser and more equipped as: wife, mother,
daughter, friend, and Christ-follower.
Without the Almighty One guiding and directing the lives of the eleven women I’ve noted
throughout the pages of Courageous Women of The Bible, their lives would have been
meaningless. And, without the Almighty One guiding and directing my life and yours, we will
wonder where the meaning of life truly is.
Do you feel weak and ill-equipped? Do you desperately need to feel courage coming your
way? As you invite the Almighty to join you in life every part of your journey and each
relationship you will be faithfully transformed. He will continually use the strength you do have
to help shape your weakness. You, dear friend, are the best person for the job you are in—
whether that calling is at home or outside the home. Get your courage on!
Go, Courageously!
